Thanks so much to Hansel’s adopted family for sharing his adoption story. Welcome to OBOL’s Animal Ambassadors!
We adopted Hansel back in 2016. My friend saw him on a Nextdoor post online. She knew we helped with a dachshund rescue and asked if we we knew someone interested in adopting him.

I contacted the woman who had him, and she said that she got him as a puppy–he was now 9. I was shocked she could give him away, but she said she was moving apartments and essentially did not want to deal with him anymore. (The woman wanted to move in with her boyfriend, and he did not want a dog. So she he had left him locked in her apartment all day while she was with her boyfriend, only coming to check on him occasionally.) We knew we had to take him ASAP.
We went and met him, and he was the sweetest thing. When you see him he immediately rolls on his back so you can scratch his belly. To this day, if you walk past him, he will roll on his back waiting for his belly rub.
My girls named him Hansel Von Strudel. Dachshunds are German, so they thought it would be a great German name. He has brought us nothing but happiness and joy.
Hansel is now the 4th dog we have adopted and I am sure not the last.
