How Can We HELP?

Innovative Humane Education Program
Since 2008, our Humane Education Learning Program (HELP) has educated over 14,000 children with the help of our animal ambassador, Molly. This engaging program offers interactive and fun lessons on humane education. We've tailored HELP for both classrooms and youth groups like the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Boys & Girls Clubs. We are one of few humane education programs in California.

Empowering Future Animal Advocates
Our mission is to help children develop a deep connection to animals and foster a passion for humane education. By teaching empathy, compassion, and responsible pet ownership, we aim to prevent animal abuse and neglect while promoting kindness and respect for all living beings.

Support and Get Involved
Participants in our program host drives to collect blankets and comfort items for shelter animals, becoming actively involved in improving their well-being. Led by Eileen Smulson and her dog, Molly, children learn about the impact of their contributions and how they can help homeless animals. Call us at (818) 402-6586 to set up a free presentation.

Did you know?
Humane Education is a part of required learning in schools as mandated by the California State Educational 51540 Sec 233-233.5 (Duties of Teachers) This section specifically mandates teaching kindness toward domestic pets and the humane treatment of living creatures.

Operation Blanket of Love is perfect for helping children learn about community needs and how important it is to value and care for animals. The students loved the presentation with Eileen Smulson and her dog, Molly. After her wonderful presentation she gave out a bilingual coloring book to each of our students. Our families really came through and we collected a large amount of blankets and other needed important items.
Eileen and her husband Brad provide a platform for this support that is truly amazing. How this wonderful organization supports children is through their visits to schools, sharing important information about what is most needed for dogs and cats to be cared for, adopted, and loved.

Kids In Action to Help Save Lives of Homeless Animals
IMPORTANT NOTE: Animal abuse has been shown to be directly linked to bullying and domestic violence. Childhood cruelty towards animals can lead to violence against humans. Educating children early about humane issues can break this cycle. Founder Eileen Smulson wrote "How to Care for our Pet Pals, Be Kind to Animals & Pets are Your Forever Friends" a 55 page Bilingual (Spanish) Coloring Activity Booklet. All kids get this booklet free when they do a collection for the homeless animals.

"Most Accomplished Animal Ambassador"
“We are beyond excited to announce that Molly is a winner in our 2026 Educator’s Choice Awards for Most Accomplished Animal Ambassador!”
- The Association of Professional Humane Educators (APHE)
Molly, OBOL’s beloved Animal Ambassador, plays a special role in bringing compassion and education directly into schools and youth groups alongside Eileen. Through her own rescue story, Molly helps children understand the importance of kindness, empathy, and responsible pet care. Together, Molly and Eileen create memorable, hands-on experiences that inspire the next generation to care deeply for animals and take an active role in their well-being.
